Overview:

  • BAPCO Sitra Refinery expansion.
  • Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) has announced the expansion of the BAPCO Sitra Refinery.
  • The refinery is the oldest in the Middle East having been operational since the 1930s shortly after the discovery of oil in the region.
  • The expansion is estimated to cost around $6 billion and will include an expansion of the processing capacity from 267,000 barrels per day to 360,000.
  • The wider modernisation programme also includes a 115km cross border oil pipeline to Saudi Arabia.
  • The project is expected to be complete by 2020.
  • BNP Paribas and HSBC are advising on the project financing, which also involves several export credit agencies (ECAs).
