Goodwin Procter has hired two new partners to add to its private equity practice in Hong Kong.

Douglas Freeman and Victor Chen join the firm from Paul Hastings where they advised on M&A and take-private transactions involving private equity firms.

Yash Rana, chair of Goodwin’s office in Hong Kong said of the hires: “Goodwin’s Hong Kong private equity platform is a vital part of the firm’s international offering that is truly full-service, covering the entire life cycle of clients’ investments – from fund formation to investments and exits. Doug and Victor are outstanding lawyers who are joining our platform at a time when we are seeing increasing client demand for local, cross-border, in- and out-bound support on Asia transactions as well as interest from investors seeking more specialized sector experience.”

The pair previously acted in China Media Capital and FountainVest Partners share sale in IMAX China Holding via an HKSE IPO; and Freeman acted in Singaporean sovereign investor Temasek Holdings purchase of a stake in Korean retailer Homeplus.

Prior to Paul Hastings the duo were at Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson and departed as that firm shut up shop in Hong Kong and Shanghai in April 2015.

Goodwin Procter’s only office in Asia is in Hong Kong, where the firm is primarily focused on the Chinese and Indian markets. It now has 14 lawyers in Hong Kong, including five partners.
