Managing Partner Albert Birkner is Head of Department of Takeovers & Antitrust. He specializes in mergers and acquisitions, public takeovers, corporate reorganizations, joint ventures and trusts with a special focus on Austria and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE/SEE). He has developed particular expertise in the fields of structuring and implementation of corporate transactions, takeover mechanics and the modelling of co-ownership structures. Albert has expanded his expertise to structuring and maintenance of private trusts and to the implementation of trust structures within M&A transactions. Albert has been and is a lead partner on many prominent matters for several years already. Albert is also an author and regular contributor of a number of publications. He is frequently named as a leading individual within other guides, journals, publications, etc. and often referred to as an expert within his field.

  • In 2024 Albert advised Agri Europe Cyprus Limited in connection with the intended acquisition of shares in the listed Addiko Bank AG conveying up to 29.99% voting rights by way of a private purchase and by launching a voluntary public partial tender offer and in connection with the competing offer by Nova Ljubljanska Banka d.d.
  • Albert further in 2024 advised red-stars.com data AG on the successful exit of its investment in ecosio GmbH, a leading provider of electronic data interchange (EDI) and electronic invoicing (e-invoicing) solutions based in Vienna. This transaction is one of the largest start-up exits in Austria in 2024.
  • In 2024 Albert further Mölnlycke Health Care through its strategic acquisition of P.G.F. Industry Solutions GmbH
  • In 2025, he advised Worthington Cylinders GmbH, a subsidiary of Worthington Enterprises, on the cross-border carve-out and sale of its alternative fuels business (SES Composites) to Norway-based Hexagon Composites ASA.
