IL&FS Tamil Nadu Power 3,600MW Thermal Power Project

Overview:

• The IL&FS Tamil Nadu Power 3,600MW thermal power project is a greenfield thermal power project that was to be developed in two phases, with Phase-1 comprising 2x600MW units and Phase-II made up of 3x800MW.
• For the first phase, the company proposes to set up a 1200MW (2x600 MW) power plant based on imported coal with subcritical technology. 
• The project received environmental clearance in 2010 but faced delay due to an order by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in June 2012. On 16 November 2014, the NGT cancelled the green clearance for the project.
• At the moment, both units built in Phase-I are operating, but Phase-II is now shelved.
