Overview:

  • Ukujima 480MW solar photovoltaic power plant.
  • The project involves the construction and operation of a 480MW photovoltaic power plant on the island of Ukujima in Sasebo City.
  • The project is being developed by Photovolt Development Partners (PDPG), a German developer, with local partners.
  • The project site is over 6 million m2 and in 2013, a facility approval under the feed-in tariff scheme was obtained from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
  • In 2015, the project obtained grid connection approval from Kyushu Electric Power.
  • The project aims to boost the local economy, support the creation of jobs, tax revenues, tourism and education, and electricity produced from several sites will be fed into an internal grid network and delivered to Kyushu Electric Power via a high-voltage, direct current submarine cable, which is unprecedented in Japan.
