PRESS RELEASE, Ho Chi Minh City, 4 March, 2016 - On the evening of 3rd March, 2016, at the IFLR 2016 awards ceremony in Hong Kong, VILAF was announced to be the winner of 2 prestigious awards– the Vietnam National Firm of the Year and the Project Finance Deal of the Year. These Awards are two of the most coveted awards among those granted by International Financial Law Review (IFLR) at its annual awards ceremony.
The IFLR Asia Awards each year recognizes the region’s most innovative deals and outstanding achievements of the law firms involved. Awards are given on the basis of the contribution and influence of the relevant law firms to the legal practice. VILAF is honored to receive two of these awards this year.
In 2015, VILAF advised Mondelez International as Vietnam counsel in its USD 370 million acquisition of the snack business of listed company Kinh Do Corporation, advised Credit Saison in its acquisition of 49% of the equity interest in HD Finance, advised Nguyen Kim in the joint venture sale of 49% equity stake in its chain of electronic stores to Power Buy, advised Gamuda Land in the buy-out of equity stake in Celadon City, advised CPECC in the joint venture acquisition of Jaks Hai Duong BOT Power Project, advised Standard Chartered Bank in Masan Consumer’s issue of USD100 million corporate bonds, guaranteed by CGIF, a trust fund of ADB, and advised Bank of Tokyo – Mitsubishi UFJ in a USD510 million syndicated loan facility to to finance a highway project connected to Da Nang.
The Project Finance Deal of the Year Award recognizes VILAF’s efforts in completing the financing of the USD 1.4 billion Vinh Tan 1 Coal-fired Power Plant Project. The Vinh Tan 1 Power Plant Project is located in the Vinh Tan Power Center in Binh Thuan province, which consists of three thermal plants, including Vinh Tan 1 (1,200MW), Vinh Tan 2 (1,200MW) and Vinh Tan 3 (2,000MW). The financing stage has taken more than 1.5 years to complete.
