Mr. Zhang is the Managing Partner of Haiwen & Partners. Mr. Zhang has over 25 years of legal experiences, and has widely been regarded by the clients and industry as expert in the M&A and capital markets areas.

Mr. Zhang joined Haiwen in February 2004 as partner. Before joining Haiwen, he worked at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in its New York and Hong Kong offices from 1997 to 2003. Mr. Zhang also worked with the China Securities Regulatory Commission as staff attorney between 1993 and 1996.

Mr. Zhang has been awarded "Asian Leading Lawyer" for 16 years from 2006 to 2021, and has been ranked as "Band 1" lawyer in the private equity and venture capital investments by Chambers for many years, and consecutively from year 2015 to year 2021. Mr. Zhang has been highly ranked by International Financial Law Review (IFLR) for many years, and was ranked as Market Leader by IFLR in 2018 to 2021 for the area of M&A, Private Equity, and Capital Markets.

In the area of M&A transactions, Mr. Zhang has extensively represented international financial institutions, multinational corporations and international private equity firms, as well as large Chinese enterprises, including both SOEs and non-SOEs, for their cross border M&A investments. Mr. Zhang's clients include HSBC, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Temasek, Development Bank of Singapore, BBVA (a Spanish bank), IBM, Daimler Chrysler, Best Buy, Vale, Universal Studio, Henry Schein, KKR, Hillhouse Capital, Sequoia Capital, CDH Capital, TPG, DST,Silver Lake、Sinopec, China Investment Corporation (CIC), CICC, New China Life, Taikang Life, Pingan Insurance, Capital Airports Holdings, Alibaba Group, Baidu, etc.

In the area of capital markets transactions, Mr. Zhang has represented both issuers and underwriters in numerous equity and bond offerings on the NYSE, NASDAQ and the HKSE. Representative transactions include the initial public offerings of a company engaged in IDC business (on-going), 8848.com (abandoned), Baidu.com, BOC Hong Kong (Holdings) Limited, AU Optronics Corp., China Oriental Group, Hurray! Holding Co., Ltd., Ninetowns Digital World Trade Holdings Limited, Daqo Engery and Boshiwa Holdings, a follow on equity offering by United Microelectronics Corporation, and bond offerings by Ritek, United Microelectronics and Gigamedia.

Mr. Zhang received his LL.B. degree and his Master of Laws degree from the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing in 1990 and 1993, respectively, and his LL.M. degree from New York University School of Law in 1997. Mr. Zhang's native language is Mandarin, and he speaks English fluently.
