Mr. Zhang is a partner, resident in our Beijing office. Mr. Zhang's practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, foreign direct investment and corporate governance.

Mr. Zhang joined Haiwen in July 2006 and also worked at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in its New York office from August 2012 to May 2013.

Mr. Zhang's recent experience includes advising:

  • the merger between China CNR Corporation Limited and CSR Corporation Limited;
  • China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation in the first “Mixed Ownership Reform” and the relating capital increase in an aggregate amount of RMB107 billion;
  • Henry Schein, Inc., a US public company, in connection with its acquisition of a dental device business in China and the relating establishment of a joint venture;
  • Hillhouse Capital in its various investments in China;
  • CITIC PE in its investment in DIDI Taxi;
  • KKR in connection with its RMB3.3 billion investment in Qingdao Haier;
  • Goldman Sachs Gao Hua Securities Limited as financial advisor, in the first voluntary tender offer of a public company in the B share market in China;
  • Shenzhen Development Bank in connection with its RMB29 billion equity acquisition of Ping An Bank and the subsequent merger with Ping An Bank;
  • Shenzhen Development Bank in connection with China Ping An Life Insurance Co., Ltd.’s RMB 6.9 billion subscription of the newly issued shares of the bank;
  • the underwriters in connection with Renesola Ltd.’s IPO and NYSE listing in 2008, and Renesola in connection with its several subsequent offerings;
  • China Huaneng Group in connection with its US$3 billion acquisition of 100% of the equity interests in Tuas Power Ltd., one of the biggest four power plants in Singapore;
  • China Huaneng Group and Huaneng Power International Inc. in their various acquisitions of power plants, coal mines and docks in China.

  • Mr. Zhang received his LL.B. degree and his Master of Laws degree from Southwest University of Political Science and Law and Peking University in 2003 and 2006 respectively. Mr. Zhang also receives his LL.M. degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Duke University School of Law in 2012.
