Enrique is founding partner of the firm and has over 36 years of experience as a leading expert in cross-border transactions with emphasis in energy, power generation, M&A’s, joint ventures, project finance and international commercial arbitration. He supports his transactional practice by bringings together his corporate and dispute resolution experience, for the structuring and negotiation of transactions.

Enrique mainly represents domestic and foreign clients from the oil & gas industry in a wide range of projects and transactions related to the energy and infrastructure sector. Some of the energy matters he advises clients include their participation in public bids as well as their entrance in the reshaped energy market in Mexico, among other regulatory matters.

His experience also includes, acting as lawyer, arbitrator and/or mediator in a variety of controversies promoted under the rules of the ICC - International Chamber of Commerce and the International Commission for Settlement of Disputes of the American Arbitration Association.

  • Represented Nacional Financiera, Bancomext and Banobras, Mexico’s National Development Banks, in the US$800 million project finance granted to Altán Redes for the Red Compartida telecoms project
  • Counsel in the acquisition of the Royal Bank of Scotland (Mexico) and its transformation into Investa Bank (today Accendo Banco), acting on behalf of a group of Mexican and Foreign investors, leading to the creation of Investa Bank, a bank in Mexico, representing the parties before the regulators including the National Banking and Securities Commission (Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores) and the Bank of Mexico (Banco de México)
  • Represented Schlumberger in the acquisition of the interest in the onshore oil field Pánuco, located in the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, from its former contract partner Petrofac (British oil and gas service provider)
  • Represented Banco Bradesco of Brazil in the acquisition of IBI Mexico from Cofra, as part of Bradesco’s US$900 million acquisition of IBI’s operations in Brazil and Mexico
  • Acted as arbitrator in the Grupo Modelo (Mexico) vs Anheuser-Busch (U.S.), case concerning issues deriving the merger by the latter and Ambev (Belgium)
