Founded in 1980, Jakarta-headquartered Makarim & Taira S is one of the most well-recognised names in Indonesia’s legal market. Highlights  

Recent examples of the firm’s deal work include advising Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) on its acquisition of a controlling stake in Smelting through a sophisticated debt-to-equity swap. The transaction was highly complex due to its multi-layered structure. The debt conversion triggered a mandatory change-of-control process, requiring meticulous adherence to Indonesian acquisition rules.  

Other highlights include advising Grab Holdings on its acquisition of the Chope group of companies, a leading Singapore-based restaurant reservation platform. This acquisition is a strategic expansion for Grab. The primary legal challenge involved the seamless integration of Chope's existing business, particularly in Indonesia.
