Binder Grösswang is a leading commercial firm, with 88 lawyers based in Vienna and Innsbruck. Although the firm is exclusively based in Austria, it often leads on cross-border deals.

Focusses / specialisms

Lending advice is a strength of the firm. It advises most big domestic and regional banks and is known as one the country’s stronger banking regulatory firms. It regularly works with private equity firms and is recommended for leveraged finance. Project financing for wind power plants is another area the firm is more experienced than most firms are locally.

The firm has a good capital markets team. The group is active on the debt side and often advises locally based lenders on commercial paper programmes and has recent IPO experience advising underwriters.

The M&A team consistently secures roles on the market’s top deals and is often involved in cross-border inbound acquisitions involving financial sponsors, where it typically advises private equity firms as either buyer or seller.

Key clients

Notable banking clients of the firm include ING Bank, Unicredit, Emirates NBD and Badder Bank. The firm has worked with leading companies in various fields, such as Mayr-Melnhof Group and Stienhoff Group.
