Public acquisition

€ 7.3 billion

$ 7.740 billion

Announced

13/12/2016

Overview:

  • Japanese beer producer Asahi has acquired Anheuser-Busch InBev's businesses in the Czech Republic, Slovak republic, Poland, Hungary and Romania for €7.3 billion.
  • The target brands include Pilsner Urquell, Kozel and Tyskie.
  • The deal is a result of AB InBev's need to sell certain brands due to competition restrictions following its acquisition of SABMiller.
  • This is the largest deal in the history of Asahi which already bought other brands from Anheuser-Busch InBev in October 2016, including Peroni and Grolsch
  • All of the businesses were formerly owned by SABMiller.
  • As Asahi already owns businesses in Western Europe, this acquisition will help the company expand its operations across the continent.
