Overview:

  • The Carlyle Group and GIC have acquired the speciality chemicals division of Dutch paints and chemicals manufacturer AkzoNobel for €10.1 billion.
  • GIC is the sovereign wealth fund of Singapore.
  • JPMorgan, HSBC, Lazard, Deloitte, Nexant, WTW, ERM and Merilil Datasite all acted as advisors to AkzoNobel on the matter.
  • Evercore, Valence, ERM PwC, WTW, Aon, Risk International, Sweco and Bain & Company advised the purchasers on the deal.
  • The acquisition comes two years after the two buyers previously joined together in the $7.4 billion acquisition of Veritas Technologies.
