Overview:

  • Dutch media company Talpa Holding has completed the acquisition of a 67% stake in SBS Broadcasting from Finnish group Sanoma for a total consideration of €237 million.
  • Talpa is now the sole owner of Dutch television channels SBS6, Veronica, Net5 and SBS9 as well as TV guide business Veronica Uitgeveri, which was also part of the deal.
  • Talpa and Sanoma had earlier together acquired SBS in 2011 for more than €1 billion, with Talpa taking a 33% stake at that time.
  • Following the sale of Talpa Media to ITV in 2015 for an initial amount of €500 million, the buyer has been on the lookout for new acquisitions. For example, the purchase of the stake in SBS came following its failed attempt to gazump the proposed acquisition of the Telegraf Media Group by a consortium of Mediahuis and VP Exploitatie
