Johannesburg 25 November 2024 - Premier African law firm Bowmans today announced the appointment of Jeremy Connick as a consultant with effect from January 2025.

Jeremy, a highly experienced UK-based lawyer, has been tasked with extending the reach and influence of the firm’s Africa-wide Projects and Infrastructure Practice.

Chairman and senior partner, Ezra Davids, says, ‘We are excited to welcome a lawyer of Jeremy’s stature as a consultant to our team. Jeremy has been actively engaged in work across Africa for over 35 years and has advised on a range of projects and infrastructure transactions. He will add to our leading projects and infrastructure practice, which will also be strengthened by the addition of a number of partners in South Africa in January 2025.

Jeremy specialises in energy, natural resources and infrastructure transactions and has represented a variety of international and African sponsors and lenders on major project developments across the continent. He has also represented a variety of private equity firms, corporates and lenders on the acquisition and disposal of energy and infrastructure assets.

During his career, he has worked in Clifford Chance's Hong Kong, Washington and London offices and was co-head of the firm's Energy & Natural Resources Group.

Co-head of the Infrastructure Sector at Bowmans, Aleem Tharani says, ‘Beyond his impressive experience in international energy and infrastructure, Jeremy is a fantastic individual with a stellar reputation in the industry. We are thrilled to welcome someone of his calibre to the team, and we know his expertise will be invaluable as we drive our strategic initiatives in Africa’s energy transition and on-going infrastructure development.’

Jeremy says, ‘I am absolutely delighted to be joining my friends at Bowmans with whom I have worked so closely over many years. We have talked for a very long time about joining forces with a view to giving the amazing Bowmans platform access to an even broader international perspective. I am so happy it’s finally a reality and that I will also have a chance to spend more time with my friends and clients across the continent.’

This is the second strategic move that Bowmans is taking to be in a better position to help clients in Africa's rapidly growing infrastructure sector; an important area of client need.

In January 2025, Bowmans will be welcoming a team of projects lawyers from A&O Shearman South Africa in a move that will enhance the profile and reputation of the combined team, increasing its depth and breadth and extending its capacity and capability.
