Sidley Austin has added an investment fund and derivatives partner to its Boston office.

David Kreisler joins the firm from Weil Gotshal & Manges and has a focus on advising private equity sponsors and investment funds.

In an interview with IFLR1000, Kreisler said: “Sidley’s investment funds practice currently focuses on hedge fund work and representing investors in funds, but there has not been a strong focus on representing sponsors. The ability to do that and really grow that practice was something I think will be challenging and exciting.”

Kreisler also spoke to the importance of Sidley’s regulatory capacity for the work he wants to do. “The investment funds industry has become an increasingly regulated industry,” Kreisler said highlighting the Dodd Frank Act in particular. “Sidley’s regulatory expertise in many areas, [such as] advising investment advisers with respect to all matters of registration (including support in connection with SEC examinations), as well as FINRA and broker-deal matters are exactly the sort of resources my clients needed.”

While at Weil Gotshal & Manges, Kreisler advised HM Capital Partners and Kainos Capital with selling portfolio companies of Sector Performance Fund and advised Tailwater with forming Tailwater Energy Fund II, a $500 million private equity fund. His other clients included Quantum Energy Partners and The Gores Group.
