Brazilian firm Mattos Engelberg Advogados has merged with Brasília-based Lavinas Marinho Buzanelli Donati Advogados.

The merger brings partners José Lavinas, Gustavo Penna Marinho, Paulo Victor Buzanelli and Conrado Donati Antunes to Mattos Engelberg. With this move, the firm has 21 partners and over 90 associates. The combined entity will continue to operate as Mattos Engelberg.

“We already had an office in Brasilia, and Lavinas Marinho Buzanelli Donati Advogados was complementary to our activities in Brasilia. The merger added some areas of practice which we did not have, such as white collar crime and some areas of public law,” Fernando Engelberg de Moraes, founding partner of Mattos Engelberg Advogados said.

In addition to its office in Brasília, Mattos Engelberg also has offices in São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, Rio Brilhante, as well as a representative office in Shanghai, China.

Mattos Engelberg Advogados was founded when the founding partners of Mattos Muriel Kestener Advogados broke off and split into three firms. Ubiratan Mattos, a founding partner of Mattos Muriel Kestener, combined practices with Fernando Engelberg Moraes (who had founded Engelberg Moraes Advogados).

Since its inception, the firm has continued to grow its practice. The firm also hired Wagner Garcia Botelha as a real estate and agribusiness partner in March 2017.
