Partners Alfredo Gómez, Felipe Fernández and Luis García Campuzano, who made up Kuri Breña Sánchez Ugarte & Aznar’s Monterrey office have left the firm to form Villarreal García Campuzano Gómez & Fernández.

The firm was officially formed on January 19 2016, and focuses on banking and finance, capital markets, M&A and corporate and government compliance.

García Campuzano focuses his practice on M&A, compliance, corporate governance and anticorruption. Gómez’s practice areas include financing, capital markets and restructuring, and Fernández specialises in finance and restructurings and also has experience in M&A.

The firm’s team also includes senior associate Alejandro Villarreal and associates Nabor Mejia Robles and Sonia Paredes Sepúlveda, who all came over from Kuri Breña.

"A lot of our transactions are in a way related to Monterrey and its big corporate companies and financial institutions,” Gómez says.

“We got together with Ramiro Villarreal and Daniel Villarreal who are going to be our of-counsel. Ramiro Villarreal is going to take more of an advisory role of the firm, since he will continue as the general counsel of Cemex. It made sense to join forces with them in order to become a much stronger group.”

Daniel Villarreal also acts as external counsel to cement company Cemex, which is based in Monterrey.

Kuri Breña has closed its Monterrey office and is now running solely out of its Mexico City base.
