Demarest has bolstered its transactional and litigation practices with the promotion of four of attorneys based in the firm’s head office in São Paulo.
Antônio Carlos Frugis, a member of the firm's labor litigation department, Fabíola Emilin Rodrigues, a member of the criminal department, Renato Buranello, a member of the corporate finance and agribusiness divisions, and Lucas Tavares, a member of the M&A team, will kick off their roles as partners in January 2015.
Tavares began practicing law at Demarest in March 1999. He spent three years at representing the firm as a foreign associate at Buenos Aires-based Marval O'Farrell & Mairal. He recently advised CaixaPar in a partnership for the consolidation of new credit card brand Elo. Tavares also advised Grupo Aliança on its sale to Qualicorp and in the sale of ownership of Los Grobo Ceagro to Mitsubishi. Moreover, Tavares was part of the team that advised HUB International on the sale of its subsidiary Harmonia Corretora de Seguros to Howden. The latter transaction closed on November 5.
Before Demarest, Buranello spent six years as counsel at Coimex Trading and three years as a legal manager at Citibank. He represents large input and fertilizer companies in their barter operations in the banking market, in debt and trade finance operations, and, in particular, in the development of the major securitization operations in the agribusiness sector. Some of Buranello's clients include Bunge, Raízen, ING Bank, Rabobank, and Credit Agricole.
In November, the firm strengthened its M&A practice with the inclusion of Marcos Schroeder as a partner. Schroeder, who spent nearly two decades at Wald Associados Advogados, has assisted clients such as Mitsui, Odebrecht, and Credit Suisse with corporate and capital markets transactions.
