There has been a distinctive technology flavour to IFLR1000's selection of deal announcements from June 2016, with energy—particularly the clean variety—seasoning blends.
Microsoft—the American multinational technology company—acquired the business-oriented social networking service LinkedIn for $26.2 billion in the single largest deal of its history; and China’s tech utopian dream continued unabated as JD.com bought Yihaodian, Walmart's China ecommerce business, for $1.5 billion.
White & Case took centre stage in the value tables, and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati made a strong show of itself on account of its advice to LinkedIn in Microsoft’s takeover. Also DLA Piper led in deal volume with 27 deals in June.
Elsewhere we saw a spate of energy deals with Germany—despite running out of power in the European football championships—forming the biggest wind-turbine manufacturer in the world as Siemens merged with Spanish manufacturer Gamesa; and Wales went nuclear, not in reference to their extended run in Euro 2016, but because Hitachi Nuclear Energy Europe, Horizon Nuclear Energy, Bechtel and JGC Corporation formed a joint venture to develop a £10 billion 2700MW nuclear power plant at Wylfa Newydd on the Isle of Anglesey.
