Hussein Azmy is a Senior Associate in ASAR’s Kuwait office and has been with the firm since 2021. His practice focuses on corporate advisory, mergers and acquisitions, conventional and Islamic finance, capital markets, and PPP projects. He advises clients across the private and public sectors on transactional and regulatory matters in Kuwait and the wider MENA region.

Hussein has worked on finance, capital markets, and project development matters across Egypt, Oman, and Kuwait. His experience includes advising on Shariah-compliant financing arrangements, sovereign and corporate issuances, real estate investment structures, and PPP mandates. He also contributes to regional legal publications on Islamic finance and corporate and commercial developments.

He was recognised as a Rising Star at the IFLR MENA Awards for 2025. Prior to joining ASAR, Hussein practised at international and top-tier firms in Egypt and Oman, and he holds law degrees from France, the United States, and Egypt

  • Hussein acted for the global finance parties, represented by National Bank of Kuwait and Kuwait Finance House as initial mandated lead arrangers, in connection with a KWD 1.5 billion senior unsecured conventional loan and commodity murabaha term facility provided to Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.

  • Hussein supported ACWA Power, as lead member of a consortium, and Gulf Investment Corporation on their bid for the Az-Zour North Phases 2 & 3 IWPP project under Kuwait’s PPP framework. His role included assisting with project structuring, bid submissions, and the incorporation of the consortium holding and project companies.

  • Hussein advised Kahrabel FZE, a subsidiary of Engie SA, on Kuwait regulatory considerations arising from the sale of its interests in two Dutch entities holding shares in the parent company of Shamal Az-Zour Al Oula Power and Water Company KSCP, as part of Engie’s broader GCC divestment programme.
