What is the Artificial Intelligence Act (“AI Act”)? The AI Act is an EU Regulation, the first comprehensive legal framework regulating AI systems. It seeks to improve the functioning of the European internal market by creating a consistent legal framework for developing, marketing, and using artificial intelligence (“AI”) systems in the EU. The Regulation ensures the free movement of AI-based goods and services across the EU and aims to lessen administrative and financial burdens for businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The regulation on digital operational resilience for the financial sector is an EU regulation (2022/2554) that entered into force on 16 January 2023 and will apply as from 17 January 2025. This Digital Operational Resilience Act, commonly known DORA, applies to financial institutions such as banks, payment providers, and investment companies.
