Juan Carlos Machorro is a corporate and financial lawyer with more than 25 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions, project finance and infrastructure projects. He heads the Energy practice area of Santamarina y Steta. He joined the firm in 1990 and became a partner in 2012. Juan Carlos worked as a foreign associate with Brown & Wood LLP in New York City.
Juan Carlos has represented several international investors in energy and financial projects and agreements across Mexican territory. He also has broad experience in negotiating with PEMEX, CFE and local regulators regarding oil and gas and power projects, and has participated in cutting edge infrastructure transactions, including airport, port, railroad, and energy related, with diverse renewable energies, biogas, wind, biodiesel, photovoltaic, advanced ethanol and animal fat, both in the structuring and implementation of the transactions with local and foreign investors.
Juan Carlos has represented several international investors in energy projects and agreements across Mexican territory. He also has broad experience in negotiating with PEMEX and local energy authorities regarding oil and gas, and has participated in cutting edge transactions with renewable energies biogas, wind, biodiesel, photovoltaic, advanced ethanol and animal fat), both in the structuring and implementation of the transactions with local and foreign investors.

Juan Carlos was educated at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City (1989- 1994) and has postgraduate studies in International Business and Finance at New York University (1997-1998).
He is also a professor of Mercantile Law at Universidad Anáhuac México Norte.
