Jamie Thomas is Co-Chair of Gibson Dunn’s Global Finance Practice Group and heads the finance and restructuring practice in the firm’s Singapore office.

Jamie represents clients on complex cross-border leveraged and acquisition finance transactions as well as project financings, sustainable financings, debt buy-backs, asset-backed lending, receivables financings, pre-IPO financings and fundraisings in the tech sector. He also specialises in restructurings, reorganisations and insolvencies.

He is consistently recognised as a leading banking and finance lawyer by IFLR1000, Chambers Asia-Pacific, Chambers Global and Best Lawyers in Singapore, and has worked on many award-winning finance and restructuring transactions in the Asia-Pacific region.

Jamie is Chair of the Indonesian Steering Committee of the Asia Pacific Loan Market Association (APLMA) and sits on the APLMA Singapore Documentation Committee.

  • Advised the Duniatex Group, the leading textile manufacturer in Indonesia, in the cross-border restructuring of its approximately US$2.6 billion of debt in Indonesia, Singapore and United States. Named “Finance Deal of the Year: Insolvency and Restructuring” at The Asian Lawyer’s Asia Legal Awards 2021 and “Debt Market Deal of the Year (Premium)” at the ALB Indonesia Law Awards 2021.
  • Advised MAXpower Group, a power and energy group in Southeast Asia, on the sale of a substantial number of its ordinary shares, all classes of preferred equity and warrants to PT Infra Daya Energia, and on the complex restructuring of its debt and equity structure. Named “Restructuring Deal of the Year” at the IFLR Asia-Pacific Awards 2020.
  • Advised MedcoEnergi on its US$500 million six-year secured revolving reserve-based lending (RBL) facility arranged by the mandated lead arrangers and bookrunners Australia and New Zealand Banking Group, ING Bank and Société Générale. Named “Debt Market Deal of the Year” at the ALB SE Asia Law Awards 2019, “Indonesian Oil and Gas Deal of the Year” at The Asset Triple A Asia Infrastructure Awards 2019 and “Asia Pacific Upstream Oil & Gas Deal of the Year” at the IJGlobal Asia Pacific Awards 2018.
  • Advised HSBC as intercreditor agent of the shared security of the financings supporting Alibaba Group Holding Limited’s successful privatization of Alibaba.com, and on the financings supporting Alibaba’s repurchase of half of Yahoo’s 40 percent stake in it for US$7.1 billion. Also advised HSBC as facility agent of the financing by the international banks supporting the privatization.
