Getu Shiferaw is a Partner and Lead of MLA Corporate and Finance Practice Group. He was promoted to a partner in July 2022, prior to that he has been leading MLA’s Corporate Practice Group. His practice encompasses general corporate and commercial law, with expertise and specializations in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, financial market regulations, project finance, sovereign debt and sovereign debt guarantee, hospitality and leisure and FDI.

Before joining MLA in 2013, he served as a lecturer of law and legal service head at Wolaita Sodo University for about two years. He also taught law at Addis Ababa University and Admas University. Since 2013, he has been advising foreign and domestic investors on a wide range of corporate and financial matters. Getu is also a member International Bar Association (IBA) and Ethiopian Lawyers’ Association (ELA)

  • Getu advised Boeing Africa PLC and Boeing International Corporation in Ethiopia on continues basis. Getu being a lead partner on the deal, MLA manages Boeing’s legal matter that include representing the shareholders of Boeing Africa PLC and parent company of Boeing International Corporation Ethiopia liaison office. He advised on all the regulatory filings, license renewals, change of address and management related issues.
  • Getu advised BWP Data center and Cloud Services PLC (BWP) in Ethiopia in relation to its cryptocurrency mining operations at four sites in Ethiopia. The sites are Koye Abo, Kilinto, Sebetta and Hawassa. BWP and its related companies have installed capacity of 240 MW electricity for which it has entered into power purchase agreement with Ethiopian Electric Power. Getu advised the companies on general legal services in relation to duty free import rights, licensing, immigration and employment, dispute resolution, acquisition of land, regulatory approvals for import of mining and ant-mining machines, etc. It is a cross border matter that involves Ethiopia, Russia and UAE.
  • Getu advised the Dutch company called De Heus Animal Nutrition B.V. its Ethiopian subsidiary Alema Koudijs Feed PLC on a number of Ethiopian law. He advised the company in relation to foreign shareholder loan, distribution agreement, supply agreement, restructuring of corporate governance, foreign currency related regulation, immigration and employment issues, local and federal tax regulation, access to land and general corporate and commercial law issues in Ethiopia.
