Fergus is a Partner in William Fry's Projects & Construction Department and Head of our Energy & Natural Resources Group.  Fergus advises local and international power, oil, gas and commodities companies on major projects, transactions and regulatory matters and on renewable energy and co-generation, with particular expertise in advising new energy market participants.

  • Advising Aughinish Alumina / Rusal Aughinish is Ireland’s largest energy user and the largest alumina plant in Europe and for over 17 years Fergus has been their go to lawyer for all aspects of the company’s Irish operations; 
  • Advising in respect of all aspects of the joint venture between EirGrid and Réseau de transport d'électricité (RTE) to design and build the €1bn Celtic Interconnector project between Ireland and France.  This is a complex cross border joint venture in the regulated electricity network sector. 
  • Advising EirGrid on a number of projects related to I-SEM including on the €200m working capital facility for the funding of EirGrid's participation in the I-SEM market and EirGrid's minority stake participation in JAO and Coreso;
  • Advising specialist European wind energy fund Brookfield on the development of an 80+MW wind farm project in Clare and its financing of two other large Irish wind farm projects.
