MLA, founded in 1997, is a leading full-service law firm in Ethiopia offering a broad range of legal services. Among these are: advising and assisting clients on energy, employment, immigration, civil society organizations (NGO/NPOs), corporate and tax, capital markets, contracts, investment, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, aviation, mining, litigation, hospitality and leisure, sovereign debt and sovereign debt guarantee, private equity, security devices, conducting legal due diligence, and other related matters.

Although, MLA has been a de facto law firm for almost three decades, following the ratification of the highly anticipated Federal Advocacy Service Licensing and Administration Proclamation No. 1249/2021, which allows the formation of de-jure law firms in Ethiopia in the form of limited liability partnership - MLA has been transitioned from a de facto law firm (i.e., sole proprietorship) to a de jure law firm and registered as Mehrteab & Getu Advocates LLP on July 1, 2022.

Whilst taking pride in our outstanding reputation and market recognitions, as well as acknowledging the fact that MLA has been a leading full-service law office for nearly three decades advising and representing major multinational corporations in the country, we believe this transition is vital for us as it will allow us to deliver our services to clients, particularly to our international clients, without difficulties which may stem from the inability to form an actual law firm as well as to meet the growing demand of a holistic corporate and commercial legal service providers. We also believe this exciting transition will make us stand out from our competitors in the market due to our position as one of the first few de jure law firms in Ethiopia.
