DLA Piper Frankfurt benefits from Dewey’s demise

29 May 2012

DLA Piper
has taken on a team of lawyers from Dewey & LeBoeuf’s Frankfurt office as the firm files for Chapter 11 in the US and enters administration in the UK.

Partner Thomas Schmuck, who jointly lead Dewey’s corporate practice in Germany, and counsel Michael Holzhäuser, the former head of the US firm’s German cartel law practice, are among DLA’s latest hires. The pair will be joined by corporate counsel Ralf Steffen Schmitt and associate Semin O, who also specialises in cartel law.

Dewey’s Frankfurt base, its only German office, has seen a string of departures since reports of the firm’s financial difficulties first emerged. Earlier this month, Simmons & Simmons recruited a team of three partners and four associates from the US firm, while a corporate finance team including three partners joined McDermott Will & Emery to launch its Frankfurt office (15 May).
