Allen & Overy has announced its Vietnam launch with the opening of two offices in Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi along with the lateral hire of a managing partner from another international firm..
The magic circle outfit has lured Mayer Brown JSM managing partner, Vietnam-qualified Dao Nguyen, to be managing partner of both offices, which represent its 41st and 42nd worldwide.
In a statement, Allen & Overys Asia-Pacific managing partner Thomas Brown pointed to Vietnams rapid development and increasing influence in the region as the reasons behind the moves : Vietnam is rapidly establishing itself as a key jurisdiction within Southeast Asia and is of increasing interest to international companies.
Nguyen is well-known in the Vietnam market and recently worked with Allen & Overy as Vietnamese counsel in the Vietinbank bond issuance, which marks the first transaction in which a Vietnamese state-owned company has tapped into the international capital markets.
Regarding the appointment of Dao, Bangkok-based Simon Makinson, head of Allen & Overys Indochina practice, said, Her experience both in Vietnam and the wider region will be invaluable to us and our clients and she will strengthen the regional team.
