Benjamín Valdez & Asociados makes its first appearance in the rankings this year, and may be heading higher. Many in the Salvadoran legal market feel that, roughly two years after starting what is effectively a financial and corporate boutique, founder Benjamín Valdez and his young staff are making a big impact. "I think [Valdez] is starting strong. He has many corporate clients - big clients," comments a competitor. "The firm is definitely on the right track."
Large and small clients both praise the firm for its corporate experience and its ability to operate throughout Central America. "Our company needed the firm's cross-border capabilities," explains one client. "They had a very good grasp of the differences between the civil and commercial codes relevant in all of the countries involved, which was extremely helpful - especially for our company's transactional work."
Deals
Valdez and his staff have already been busy this year, advising Esso Standard Oil/ExxonMobil's local branch as it was sold to regional oil company Puma Energy.
The firm also helped Microsoft obtain a settlement with telecommunications company Tigo following a dispute involving a default on a licensing contract.
