Established in 2001 by Murat Aksu, ASC Law Firm is a firm fixture in the Turkish legal landscape. Led by Okan Beygo, the firm is a well-established and reputable firm servicing domestic and international clients in Turkish law matters. From term sheet to closing and beyond, the 32 lawyer strong firm has transactional nous and acts for large international corporations and banks. "They're not only responsive in the initial phase but also in the monitoring stages when we need legal advice," one client says. It is among the leaders in project finance and despite sluggish capital markets, the firm acted on some high profile IPOs last year and consequentially breaks into the capital markets rankings. "ASC does a lot of project finance. They do a lot of energy and I've seen them represent the sponsors too," one partner says.
Deals
The team picked up a notable refinancing deal last year as Özgün Özok, Melis Alkan, Hande Tamer and Kemal Taga acted for Türkiye Iş Bankası on the TL105 million ($57 million) refinancing of a facility granted to shipping company Aras Kargo Yurt Ici Yurt Disi Tasimacilik. In new lending, Baris Ertekin led the team advising the borrower Bankpozitif Kredi ve Kalkinma Bankasi of a loan facility provided by Citibank for the financing of lending operations to SMEs (small and medium enterprises).
In capital markets, on the equity side, Cagdas Selvi acted for companies in the energy and packaging industries on their respective offering of shares. The team also picked up deals on the underwriters side. In debt, the firm advised Akfen Holding on a bond issue.
Ebru Babül was the active Partner on the M&A side and last year he acted for healthcare provider Acibadem Saglik Hizmetleri ve Ticaret on the purchase of 50% of the shares in a hospital and advised Anel Enerji Elektrik Üretim Sanayi Ticaret on a joint venture with an Austrian firm to produce and sell solar panels.
In project finance, the firm acted for the borrowers and sponsors on the financing of a 870MW combined natural gas cycle power plant and also advised the arrangers of the financing for two hydro-electric power plants with a total output of 275MW. The firm also advised on several real estate constructions financings.
