Higgs & Johnson is one of the oldest full service law firms in the Bahamas and it also has offices in the Cayman Islands. The firm has experience handling multi-jurisdictional transactions using Bahamian entities often for financing purposes. Though most of the capital investment into the Bahamas still comes from the United States, Higgs & Johnson has had an increase of instructions from Asia.
Over the last year the firm has worked on several gaming related transactions. The deals themselves are confidential, however the firm has advised on aspects of real estate acquisition and regulatory approval. Partner Christel Sands-Feaste advising the government on regulations that would modernize the gaming industry in the Bahamas. Higgs & Johnson handle both local and offshore work. The firm, which also has an office in the Bahamas, has received instruction from Asia, Africa and Cayman. Leading partner Christopher Narborough continues to advise Cayman Enterprise City, the special economic zones created in Cayman. Head of funds Sarah Bolton left in August 2012, for personal reasons. Prior to leaving she passed on some of her knowledge and client contacts in the real estate field. Many of the firm's Cayman Island clients come via the Bahamas office from pre-existing relationships.
The corporate group handled the local licensing applications for Chevron Caribbean in the transfer of its business to a third party purchaser, which closed in May 2012.
