Tsar & Tsai is one of the oldest and larger law firms in Taiwan and engages in domestic and international business transactions as well as disputes and litigation. The firm has a mixture of local Taiwanese and foreign lawyers with offices in Taipei and Hsinchu, with the latter focusing on intellectual property.
The firm has considerable experience in cross-border investment and M&A and with its Hsinchu office that focuses on intellectual property (IP), it is considered one of Taiwan's leading IP law firms.
The firm has a number of distinguished partners who are recognised by their peers including C Y Huang one of Taiwan's leading practitioners of insurance law. Two other partners, Jackie and Janice Lin, are both considered influential within the M&A practice having played vital roles in many of the firm's leading M&A transactions.
Deals
M&A was the dominate theme last year with many cross-border tie-ups and acquisitions across a broad range of industries. Most recently the firm advised Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) from Sweden acquire 100% of the shares of Taiwanese hygiene products manufacturer Everbeauty Corporation in a deal worth $290 million. In another deal they assisted local computer manufacturer Acer acquire US-based cloud computing company iGware for $320 million, the fifth-largest Taiwanese buyout ever of a US company.
On the capital markets front there were two notable transactions. The first was assisting China Trust Financial Holdings in its NT$11.6 billion ($389 million) rights issue, while the second saw it assist Wistron Corporation in its $280 million Euro convertible bond issue.
