This year Zainal Azlan Abdul Kadir acted for Malayan Banking on the documentation of a term loan facility, which was to be granted under the concept of musharakah mutanqissah to partially finance the purchase of a 32-storey commercial building in Brisbane, Australia.
The firm is also involved in advising Singapore fund Securus Data Property Fund in taking an Islamic facility to purchase a data centre in Malaysia.

Zain & Co maintains its position in the M&A rankings this year due to a strong list of work. Led by partner Salwah Abdul Shukor, the firm sees work on some of the largest deals in the market. To boost its capacity, Rebecca Jeyanthi Selvaraj was promoted to the partnership at the beginning of 2012. Highlight clients this year include Khazanah Nasional, Ekuiti Nasional (Ekuinas), Petron Corporation and Securus Property Fund.
Deals
Corporate and commercial head Salwah Abdul Shukor acted for Petron Corporation on its proposed acquisition of 100% of the shares in ExxonMobil Malaysia and ExxonMobil Borneo, as well as 65% shares in Esso Malaysia for $610 million.
Shukor also led the firm in representing Ekuiti Nasional on a string of restaurant-related transactions, including the proposed subscription of shares in fast food franchise business operator Cosmo Restaurants and its proposed acquisition of Revenue Valley, which owns the Manhattan Fish Market franchise, Popeye's and Tony Roma's in Malaysia.
