Jaime Castillo joined Alemán, Cordero, Galindo & Lee in 2004 becoming partner in 2018.

His professional practice concentrates in energy, natural resources, litigation and arbitration and antitrust. Mr. Castillo has been active in project development in the electricity sector and telecommunications. He has over 14 years of experience assisting leading local companies in the development of their operations, including: Ideal Panamá (Grupo Slim), Cable & Wireless Panamá, S.A., Elektra Noreste, among others. Mr. Castillo is also the author of “The Auction of Real Estate in the Civil Process.”

Mr. Castillo has been endorsed as a “Rising Star” for Panama in IFLR1000 and ranked in “Associates to Watch” by Chambers and Partners in energy & natural resources.

  • Advised ASSA Compañía de Seguros, S.A. with respect to the purchase of the assets and operations of Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A., (Generali Panama) for a total of USD$172 million, in order to obtain the necessary approvals and authorizations before theAuthority for Consumer Protection, Defense and Competition (ACODECO) in accordance with the Panamanian anti-trust legislation. 
  • Advised Gas Natural Atlantico and Costa Norte LNG Terminal with respect to the Costa Norte Project, which includes the construction and development of an LNG power block and LNG terminal in the Colon Province of Panama. 
  • Advised Celsia S.A., E.S.P, purchaser, as local counsel, in the acquisition of 51% of the issued and outstanding shares of Bahía Las Minas, the largest thermic power generator in Panama, as well as the acquisition of 100% of the issued and outstanding shares of Alternergy, S.a., Suez Energy Central America, S.A. and Bontex, S.A., all property of Suez Energy International Luxembourg, seller, a subsidiary of GDF Suez, for USD$840 million, which is the largest private transaction in Panama in 2014. In addition, Mr. Castillo advises Celsia S.A., E.S.P and its subsidiaries in all of their ongoing operations in the energy sector in Panama.
  • Advised Cable & Wireless Panamá, S.A., and Sonitel, S.A., subsidiaries of Liberty Global Plc., in their operations in Panama, which include all of the telecommunication services, pay TV and services and information technology. Cable & Wireless Panamá, S.A. is the largest telecommunications operator in Panama.
  • Advised Elektra Noreste, the second largest electricity distribution company in the country, and Hidroecológica del Teribe S.A., which owns a 30 MW hydroelectric power plant, in all of their operations in Panama. Both companies are subsidiaries of Empresas Públicas de Medellín.
  • Advised Banistmo, S.A., in the sale for a total of USD$96.4 million to Grupo Sura of the 100% of the issued and outstanding shares of Seguros Banistmo, S.A., including the necessary approvals and authorizations before theAuthority for Consumer Protection, Defense and Competition (ACODECO) in accordance with the Panamanian anti-trust legislation.
